Interesting. We played a "Rubber Match" yesterday. The Germans won the first game handily. But then we switched sides and the Allies won, just before their card hand reduction was going to seriously begin to hamper them--rather too late in the game! Cool. We were playing "A Bridge Too Far" in the background during the games, and got them both in just before as the movie was ending...Since its still on the table, I'm thinking of solitairing the scenario with a radical "wargaming" variation after all the company goes home, so that the Allies might actually be able to relieve Arnhem (or not make it) before the game ends. This will work in the following fashion:
Instead of cards, I'll use a D6 of unit activations (player choice) each turn in each of the three sectors for the active player, and just let activated units move and fight as usual, with no other restriction. I wouldn't normally do this--but in this scenario, it might be fun. And it would make it easier to solitaire such a big game.
