The stronghold tiebreak in 2nd edition is a pain. 4 VP (with only one stronghold) is not going to cut it in most tight games and 4 supply isn't that great for either for the second tiebreak (take kingswood if you can!). Starfall is a weak spot that is hard to hold against anyone with the West Summer sea, though support out of Yronwood helps keep it and your other border territories

Martell often needs a major breakthrough (taking of Dragonstone or Highgarden) to gain that second stronghold and win the game. The former is probably easier if you can negotiate something with Stark, who is a natural ally. If you are going for KLanding, you might as well go for Dragonstone (if you can)

In the games I've had that Martell has made a deal with Tyrell, it has usually ended up good for both. They can consolidate power on their border territories and hit Baratheon and/or save Lannister from Greyjoy. They will end up fighting later in the game, but with better results than going at it from turn 1.
