Thread: Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game:: Strategy:: Y-wing gold squad build? :)

Hi,I just played my first X-wing tournament about a week back and was wondering if you could make a Y-wing squadron that is effective for elimination matches. This is because someone managed to ion cannon a TIE fighter out of the map during the tournament. I know it sounds a tad mean to literally ion cannon people out of the map but who said rebels played fair ( 100 points )

The build ( pending testing )
Dutch Vander
+R5 astro
+ion cannon

Gold Y-wing
+R5 astro
+ion cannon

Gold Y-wing

+ion cannon

either
X-wing rookie + R2 astro
or
Gold Y-wing
+ion cannon

Basically, the build solely plans on good piloting on the edge of the map, luring enemy TIE fighters and if lucky, ion cannon them cause them to exit the map. The X-wing is there for luring or killing. I know enemies will try to target at range 3 but then it would give a nice advantage to the Y-wings defence. I assume most Imperial players will come in close to really get the kill and that is where the build will catch them. The only downside is losing ships due to bad piloting . If they use the red turn right before the edge, the Y-wings can still attack unharmed and maybe peck away their 3 hull slowly with continuous attacks.
