First off the 4 vs 8 man final. Simply put, we decided a 4 man final to get the tournament finished before Thanksgiving. Having an 8 man would extend it past Thanksgiving (a week of which I would not be around or have/want to be tied to a computer) I agree that an 8 man final or perhaps even more would be ideal. Especially for a 64 man bracket. Anyhoo...
As for splitting your final match, I'll just have to rely on your good sportsmanship and trust that you'll both play it out. We'll make it clear for future tournaments. Personally, I'd like to see a 5-0 ;).
Ideas for next time:
- Have a larger final
- Optional private submission of scores for individuals at the top of the standings during the final round.
- Death penalty for collusion.
