Recently I played in a 400 point game, 8 players, 4 players to a side, each player fielding 100 points worth of ships and upgrades. The Rebels fielded 14 ships, (9 X wings and 5 Y wings) and the Imperials fielded 21 ships (7 Tie Advanced and 14 Tie Fighters). The play area was a 35 inch by 50 inch rectangle.

We played a light objective match, the goal being that a team wins when they eliminate the other teams unique pilots. Beforehand I had home-brewed a few unique pilots for each faction to fill out the ranks and provide a little variety.

It was an extremely tight match with the advantage swinging from one side to the other, and asteroids provided some interesting challenges and purely thematic moments as tie fighters crashed into them, but eventually the Empire won the day.

Being most of the players were moderate veterans, it was a relatively fast moving game (though some were surprised how long it actually took) the general consensus was that the Empire had the advantage from the get go with the sheer amount of fielding options they had, yet all agreed that it was still a fun match.
