Another thing is to allow a leader to float the 2 systems to oppose a mission, defend a fleet (obviously he would be spent afterwards)

What do you mean by "float"?

I mean if you have Chewie on Corellia, and Boba Fett tries to capture Han in Curoscant, then you can send Chewie to oppose, because he is close enough. Obviously afterwards he will be spent.

Another idea to add: would recruitment change if we have leaders have a home planet (such that you can recruit on recruitment turns only if you have a unit/leader in the home system of the new leader)?

That could be interesting.

So you would need to send Leia to Tatooine to get Obi Wan, creates a reason for going there.

This is all very cool and interesting, but I feel that this is becoming a new game, almost more RPG like.

I wrote the second part of the response before the first, and now have something else to add.
SO if all the leaders are on the board, are you essentially choosing which mission/activation to play as the round goes? is there still an assignment phase?

Another idea is to implement Light speed.

Essentially any leaders that did not get tapped are removed from the board and are either deployed to your systems or placed on cards during the upcoming assignment phase.

It's just really hard for me to justify buying into this game. If it had something more going for it I might be more inclined to spend the money. However, there are tons of other games out there with better minis, cheaper prices, more interesting factions, and just as good if (not better) game play. What makes Runewars stick out in the sea of games?

For a number of the posters here, it's the gameplay. If you don't agree, then this may well not be a game for you.

The universe seems super bland with only humans, undead, and elves.

Having played other games in the same universe, going back to the original Diskwars, there is more than what the miniatures game has shown so far. Also, it's early days: so far, we've had, what, 16 different unit types announced?

The unit composition for each of the three announced races is almost identicale (granted they play different).

Early days, again. You're naturally going to get the very basic units early, and there's going to be a lot of similarity in the basic units, simply because they're basic.

We always play with the team order of play (even with 2 player games). rebel admiral, empire admiral, empire general, then rebel general.

This means that the rebel general can go last in a round and safely do a mission on an imperial planet. The rebels have to decide if they want to risk doing a second mission on an imperial planet.

It also means that a ¨"capture leader" mission by the empire has more chance of not having a target (if the rebels have only one mission on imperial planets). So a guessing game happens. If Darth Vader is sitting on a card, then the rebels should avoid a second dangerous mission. But then the empire can put the capture mission on a less obvious leader than Vader. I love this guessing game.

But if Vader is not on a card, then the rebels will do an early mission on a big fleet to lock it in place (if the empire responds). More fun.

Also dangerous are rebel missions on planets that are likely to be captured later in the turn. So much to consider.

Also if the rebels send two leaders on a mission or oppose an imperial mission then they may end up throwing the advantage of being last on the turn.

Captures, failed captures, carbonite, interrogation, turning to the dark side and rescues really make a good story when they happen. Love them.

I really can`t get enough of the nuances in this game.

As popular as it may be, it's still a lot less funny that less popular shows like Arrested Development or Silicon Valley.

Gain 2 glory whenever at least 2 enemy figures are destroyed in a battle you participate in.

For 2 during Age 1, this card doesn't do enough. You either need to be a 3rd wheel in a big battle, or kill 2 enemy units.

100% agree. This is the worst card in AGE 1.

Hmmm. Remember this upgrade lasts all 3 ages (potentially). The Glory it gives can significantly add up. Almost every battle you take part in will trigger it.

I looked at it this way:

Next two boxes focused on the two factions newly introduced to 2nd edition: Night's Watch and Tyrell

Thread: Battlestar Galactica: Daybreak Expansion:: Variants:: Another Rebel Basestar Variant

by bobbymcferrin

Around our table we only include Daybreak with the Base Game of BSG. I own Exodus, but Daybreak is such a refined experience that we eventually removed all of Exodus' components entirely. However, we also only rarely play games to Earth, so the Demetrius, its Mission cards, and the Rebel Basestar are often left at the bottom of the box. After Exodus' Basestar board, I've wanted to provide revealed Cylons with a few more options, and of course, ways to use those components of Daybreak's Earth objective that have been left behind in the box.

Our Rebel Basestar variant is very simple: From the start of the game place the Rebel Basestar at the foot of the main game board. Set the Allegiance token to the side of the Rebel Basestar board. The Allegiance of the Rebel Basestar is set by the allegiance of the first player to occupy it, but immediately resets (i.e., set the Allegiance token to the side again) when those players leave (for whatever reason). While occupied by one or more humans, revealed Cylons cannot move to or use the action locations of the Rebel Basestar. Conversely, if one or more revealed Cylons are present there, human players (and unrevealed Cylons) cannot move to or make use of the Rebel Basestar.

The motivation behind this variant is that it puts the Rebel Basestar in play immediately from the outset of the game. Humans have more options to consider, whether to use their own Miracle ability or to use the action locations of the Rebel Basestar, and it also provides revealed Cylons with a couple of additional actions they can take too. Most importantly, it's one more component that doesn't need to live in the game box if we're not going to Earth

FFG released their grassy field play mat along with the extra dice when the core set released earlier this year.

I like FFG's playmats, but they can be a little slick. I tried playing on mine with the rubber side up and I rather liked the experience. But if you're doing that, there's no point paying for the art.

I do hope, though, that FFG releases more playmats for Runewars. I really want to see a desert-themed one with dried, cracked earth.

Isn't the FFG playmat only half the size, though? So you need to get two and put them together?

No, it's 1.

Wait, what? You can re-Invade from Valhalla with ANY figure for 1 Rage? God we played that one wrong then. That's surely OP? What am I missing?

I don't want to be rude, but this seems to be a key element here. ;-)

The rebels cannot defend most of their planet. Their key element is defending their base. They either do this directly, through forces in the base, or by defending systems that make them stronger in defending their base or by limiting the empires search for the base or by luring the empires forces to the wrong part of the board.

Key to any game of SW:R I have played so far was that last part. Look at where the empires forces are concentrated. Identify those that can overwhelm your bases defenses. Try to make the other player think that those forces need to go to A, when your base is at B.

If successfull, you will still loose militarily, but win the game.

I was waiting for a tank to roll up into this discussion, LOL.

I was going to cite the Small World Encyclopedia on this one, but I can't seem to find my copy at the moment. Barliman, can you find where/what that ruling is--I'm pretty sure it's in the Encyclopedia somewhere.

But yeah, I KNOW you don't have to attack.
When you Expand, you're expanding your score at least, right? ;)

It's good to hear of new stuff for this game (and 3 new scenarios at release is a move in the right direction), but I agree with others above & have similar feelings as I did about the last expansion...

It's feels a bit wasteful that there aren't more scenarios to properly make use of the huge quantity/variety that we already have of tiles, monsters, etc.

I mean, it's easy for the the app to randomly switch out certain monsters which aren't central to a scenario. And certain of the cards will no doubt carry over to plays of other scenarios. So that kind of extra variety will at least somewhat affect all the scenarios.

But it's obviously more work to go back through old scenarios and, for example, work in more layouts to utilise tiles from other expansions & increase replayability (so that's unlikely to happen I suppose, even though that would be much more appreciated).

While it's great to have more choice, we already have more investigators than I know what to do with!

And there's only so much that can be added with more tiles... they don't do much by themselves & there are only so many ways to lay out a few spaces & door ways. Some of the tiles are already pretty much identical/interchangeable, except for the placement of an odd bookshelf or chair.

I can't say we're anywhere near exhausting the scenarios that already exist. But just look at the massive stack of figures & tiles that are already available. There have to be a lot more fun scenarios that could be created with them. I suppose that's why there is eagerness for a (official) scenario editor.
